Started out wearing underwear where I thought it might be a problem, mostly around where there might be children, and going regimental in adult only situations. But once you have gone regimental it feels wrong to wear anything else but your kilt.

I went for regimental as soon as I got my kilt. It just seemed right. Last Saturday I hoofed it doubletime from Penn Station (34th St.) to 49th St. on a relatively windy day in Manhattan wearing my "un-wool" kilt and had no problems at all. I can't imagine what situations might be a problem unless I had to perform karate kicks to defend myself. And I imagine a heavy wool kilt would be even better at staying where it's meant to be.

Anything but boxers! the only thing worse than flashing yourself--if you know whudda mean--is flashing bloomers! Makes you look like a blooming idiot!

I usually keep a pair of very small and discreet undies close at hand, and I've even been accused of flashing myself when I actually had on some drawers.

But in the end, wear what you want. but at least get a long-tail tee shirt and give regimental style a fair chance.

Here is a suggestion. I know for a fact that Carrhart and Duluth Trading company sell extra long tail shirts. Carrhart I think has a few shirts like that but Duluth Trading carries a large assortment of Tshirts, henly's, button down, and polo shirts. They all come in short and long sleeve styles.

Most of you know that Carrhart makes rugged clothing for us rough types but Duluth is pretty close to that quality

My personal rule (in general), is to ask the following questions before I decide:
    1) How likely is there to be an accidental exposure?
    2) How likely is the accidental exposure to put me in an uncomfortable position? (like will I be giving an anatomy lesson to a six year old)
    3) How easy is it to clean the kilt?

SO... if I'm in a contemporary (washable) kilt, with a bunch of adults, who won't be offended if they see anything... I'm very likely to be regimental....IF I'm at school, in a formal wool kilt, I'm wearing something under the kilt (for me personally it is usually a pair of dark colored briefs so that any exposure seems to merely expose a "shadow")

But in the end what you wear under your kilt is entirely up to whomever picks your cloths out in the morning ... which hopefully means it is up to you!

    Cheers
    Chris

I was asked the question by the lady taking payment in the Tesco petrol station in Birmingham (UK) earlier today.

She found the "shoes and socks" answer very amusing.
