I, too, am looking for a suitable tattoo. It's one of the hardest decisions (though not as hard as getting back with my wife after a separtation). I think seeing examples of said tattoos would be helpful. But I also say .. get both!

I don't share your circumstances though and to that I offer you my thoughts and prayers. I hope that all goes well in your treatments and STAY POSITIVE (if you aren't already).

But the tassels wouldn't be even.

D'oh!! In a senior moment, I forgot to post the pics of the ones I have in mind. So far, I am leaning towards the top one.

I like the first one; it's more traditional.

I like the top one, too. And as I lay down tonight I shall include you in my prayers. Stay strong.

I have one similar to the top one except I designed it myself put somethings in it to reflect who I am.
I pray for you, my mother is going through cancer right now, and they removed half of her left lung.
My advice to you is pick what you feel is the best for your beliefs. Follow your heart.. And if you find it too hard to choose.. put one over your heart one on you back and cover your coming and goings.
It's just my opinion and nothing more.

kilty my thought are with you
my young brother of 25 has just recovered from a rare form of cancer so rare that he`s the first recorded person to suffer from this form of it ....to cut a long story short the cancer he had should have affected the saliva gland instead it was in his jawbone the doctors in Glasgow have never came across its like before but thankfully with it being in his bone they could remove the section before it spread if it was his gland then who knows what could've happened

now for the tattoo i think you should pic the 2nd image I'm not %100 sure here( hopefully other member while help here) but i remember reading somewhere the Celtic cross was actually a form of navigational equipment like a compass of sorts for folk in the past and i feel that having this style will help you guide yourself and state of mind in the days and hopefully many years to come
    all the best

Kilty: From one cancer survivor [and ink-o-phile] to you, a future cancer survivor, may I suggest that you identify your tattoo artist first if you haven't already done so, and then take the designs [which I assume are flash] and your own ideas to her/him and have something custom-designed and meaningful for you.

The fact that you can't decide between these two indicates that the basic idea you love is there, but neither has the special significance and attraction to make you want to wear it permanently. Collaboration with your artist is most likely to result in a design that you will be proud and happy to wear forever.

EDIT: After talking with your artist you might still decide on one of these, but I still suggest that you give the custom design a chance.
