I received my new kilt which I won on ebay in today's mail. It was advertised as being a vintage Lochcarron wool kilt in Maple Leaf tartan. I have confirmed that the label showing Maple Leaf tartan is correct by checking out Lochcarron's web site. The seller did not know the weight, but after weighing it, I feel comfortable saying it is a 10 ounce weight. So far so good. Now the questions/concerns.
1. It fastened with two straps on the left on a button (choice of three) on the right. Would Lochcarron have made a kilt like this in the past or someone else using Lochcarron tartans?
2. When buckled and buttoned the fringe is on the left hand side and so is the kilt pin. Is this normal because I thought both were always on the right
If I'm not mistake the kilt pin should be on the right for a gent and left for a lady.
My sister has a Strathmore 11.5oz (T7 Quality) 4 yard, 27" length, Ladies Skirt in Bruce Modern that buckles to the right as per Gents Kilt. It's made by Hector Russell and she bought it in Inverness about 20 years ago. It's clearly a ladies skirt because of the darts and the three buckle straps are narrow at 1/2" but it does do up in a manly way.
She's ever so jealous of my Bruce Strome 8 yarder though (hehehehe)
