Well, there seems to be some conflicting info on whether the French specifically decided to not invite HMTQ or not. I will admit that, as a Canuck, I am distant from British and European politics, so I may have mis-read things.

So, who is right, AFP or the Daily Mail?

What about Canadiana? HM the Queen is Queen of Canada. Canada had her own beach - Juno. Not to mention lessons learned at a great loss of Canadian lives at Dieppe two years prior, lessons that made the landings at Normandy successful.

When I saw this story on the TV news last night it was all anti-french. As I look around the internet news this morning it appears that the French have stated that HM Queen is always welcome in France and official invitations have been issued in accordance with instructions from HM Govt. It appears Gordan Brown is the can-carrier in the British Press now. Man can't seem to put a foot right although I can't say I'm surprised.

With all due respect, Sarko is not "The French"...
As far as I know, there was no French referendum as to let "The French" people decide if HM the Queen should be invited or not...

You just can't blame 65,000,000 French citizens for the political gimmicks of a megalo-maniac president.

    Respectfully,

    Robert :ootd:

Out of curiosity, I would liked to have heard what HRH Prince Philip had to say when he found out he wasn't invited. One probably wouldn't be able to post it here.

Did some research. Neither the Daily Mail, nor the AFP, seem to be pinnacles of journalistic integrity. I'm not sure if I'm inclined to believe either.

It's a shame that an anniversery such as this, gets marred by politicians, and not by the people in general... I am hurt this issue has even developed, because of what it represents to the British People (and members of the Empire). An elected official is only a temporary representative, the Royal Family is a permanent representative of the British People.
I know the French People are a grateful Nation, for the sacrifices so many made on their behalf. It has been my experience, that they have not forgotten.... Now we have politicians playing "he said, she said", makes a mockery of the people they are supposed to represent.

The prime minister will be there. That's good enough for me. I could care less if the queen mother got her personal invite or not.
