I don't know about the pith helmet itself, but I know the company is great. I have a leather jacket from them, and love it.

Thanks for the link, Tattie Shaw... U.S. Wings looks like an amazing resource for military clothing.

Stumbled across this interesting site with a large collection of "sun helmets": http://www.nyc-techwriters.com/militaria/helmets.htm

Interesting - I don't like hats in general, but I almost see myself wearing one or two of those.
Of course, I can also see the newly required Moderator headgear

I loved the way Jamie's looked in his 10 styles thread that I went to my local hat shoppe and tried a few pith helmets on for size.
I really wanted something a bit lighter weight - the one that Jamie has was in stock for $25 - but I ordered a lighter weight Dorfman Pacific for the small sum of $21!

Good luck!

If you plan to wear a British-style pith helmet and are a piper, I caution against buying the Wolseley pattern.
The brims are too wide and your bass drone will be constantly banging against the helmet, knocking it askew. Won't do the drone or the helmet any good either over time.
Buy the M-1871 model instead. Far more comfortable in the sun/heat that a glengarry or balmoral. I've always been surprised why so few pipebands in the southern half of the US don't wear them. Very practical.
