    Yes indeed you put on the doublet first then put on the belt. Perhaps I should do a step by step on it, but it's far too hot right now for that.

    The Montrose or Military doublet is a short jacket without tashes (Inverness flaps) and is worn with a belt over it -


    The belt is held in place with (in my case) two metal hooks at the rear or in more modern ones with a couple of loops. Mine also has two hooks with elastic straps which fix to the kilt and prevent the jacket riding up.
