It reminds me of the Campbell of Cawdor/Argyll District tartan in ancient colours.

Ah, indeed. And I had not noticed that. It does have some additional lines, though, and the proportions and color scheme are different. So, I think (and hope) that it's different enough.

Thanks to all for the comments and support. I will post an update when this tartan is registered and woven. Also, Chas was right and I was wrong (Matt Newsome explained the confusion in another thread), Morgan of Maryland is a symmetrical sett.

    Hi Philip,

I look forward to seeing Morgan of Maryland made up into a kilt - it's a fine tartan.

    Regards

    Chas

It is about the best 'new' tartan I have seen lately. I see the ones regularly registered at tartan registry and this is better than most I have seen. I would go with that.

    Greetings, 6 August, 543pmMST

I like it a lot! Very nice color choices. I kind of prefer what one might call "muted" colors. So many tartans are screaming bright. Like, Clan Wallace had their yearly reunion at the Boise Games last year. Looked like a bunch of Scotch tape dispensers......
Well done and kudos to your thoughtfulness and creativity.

This tartan appears ancient (made with vegetable dyes) , which also honors the long lineage in Maryland. What a brilliant way to honour your father. He'd be a might proud of you, Lad. Also, don't forget that the tartan is worth ordering and extra bit...for it would make a splendid Breacan Feile!

I think it looks great. It looks kinda old like it's always been there.
Not to cause a ruckus but it looks better than any of those new irish county tartans thats for sure.

This is necessary to make the red and blue stripes alternate, otherwise, you'd get 2 red, 2 blue.
I still don't see it. Maybe I'm a little slow, but, as I see it the tartan is symmetrical from the center of the blue or the center of the red. You wouldn't start with the green as the image starts.

I really like the look of it a lot. Definitely a fitting tribute to your father. I also find it an inspiration for myself. I've been thinking about trying to design one myself for the last coouple of days, and seeing yours has encouraged me to try and see what I can come up with!
