Return of the tartan
I wore a borrowed kilt to my high school graduation many years ago and, unfortunately, had not worn one since. This past summer I was asked to be the only kilted member of a large wedding party... this posed an interesting dilemma because:
a) I had to match the other groomsmen who were wearing regular tuxes.
b) I'm still a student and had a minimal budget.
I ended up wearing a borrowed, Grant tank; the same rented shirt, tie, vest, shoes, and cufflinks as the rest of the boys; a second hand, Hector Russell Braemar jacket because the groom required me to have a notch lapel (no PC); my father's horsehair sporran and faux-amethyst pin; an ex-rental belt; flashes sewn from dinner napkins by my lovely and supportive ladyfriend that had the same colour and pattern as the vest; and a very nice sgian from the Paul Chen/Hanwei forge tucked into my hose.
After all the research to put the outfit together, I was pricked by the arrow of tartan cupid (of course) and ended up buying or being gifted enough kit to have several outfits from hiking gear to full formal. Many thanks to all the members of XMTS for the info on this site that helped me on my way... it's about time I finally joined to say hello!
