Petrolheads (had a look at your blog) and steampunk, close cousins if ever I saw them!

Do you ever steampunk it? What do you make of the kilt in the OP?

My wife and I are both big fans of the steam punk aesthetic.

    another Steampunk fan here

I think we had that Steampunk/gear/kilt vendor at the last Science Fiction convention here in MN. VERY popular booth.
Kilts and Corsets are a big thing in the Steampunk groups here.
I like the idea of re-inventing technology in simpler terms. I have been picking up broken wind-up clocks and such for fellow Steampunk friends for making jewelry and such. Even found a bunch of old radio tubes for them to make things with. FUN STUFF!

I'm struggling to find UK vendors for steampunk. So, if ever I find the money for THAT kilt, it looks like I'll have to buy from overseas at present, unless I make one myself!

Mind, I'm inspired to transform a jacket I have with some bits of leather and metal junk from around the house and in my garage. How about a steampunk sgian or a steampunk belt for my kilt?!

Generally steampunk goes for the do it yourself slant. This is a good forum to check out: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php. Based out of the UK, there is a wealth of information and the membership is world wide.

Thanks for the plug Dee, I do need to finish the tale, just been too damn busy with school and classroom observations.

I think a kilt would be a perfect part of a good steam punk persona. Just don't forget your goggles!

Steampunk is new to me. But thanks for the link/info. I love that kilt with the gear design. Very modern, yet retro.

Not exactly kilted - but a trend for the Steampunk - Neo-Edwardian crowd are tweed rides...

Well, one could have a tweed kilt made up to join them, wot wot! I say, dashed elegant, my man!

I must admit, for all I love the kilt in my OP, it's the incoporation of leather and metal, especially brass, into a kilt that grabs me. The whole Neo-Victorian clothing thing is fascinating, but trad clothing from that era doesn't float my boat, though it's beautiful to look at. The same goes for trad kilted attire, nice in photos, but not really my scene.

That's the thing with kilting, it has a history AND a future in my book. In fact, the whole steampunk thing says it's okay to mix and match eras. Where you step in is up to you, which is really the thrust behind this thread if 'twere known!!
