    You can buy a tails jacket very easily and have only the tails reworked and the buttons replaced to create a very nice Charlie.

    Reworking a tuxedo jacket is going to entail (no pun intended) an awful lot of work. If you find a used tailcoat, you will save a lot of work and time.

    Still think a tuxedo would make a better Argyle than a PC.

    I also think most jackets will need a little alteration to make the upper waist area fit more closely.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

    somewhere in the middle, but interesting...

    The seller of this jacket ( on eBay ) has a lot of them. They seem to be midway between regular tailcoats and coatees, with short tails of some (as yet unknown) description...
