Liverwurst on rye with mayo and american cheese. Uncoventional, but that's me.

In the morning :- Tattie Scones with butter just before a large breakfast. In the afternoon :-Griddle scones (flat) with butter and jam. Brings back memories of staying on a farm near Oban (Highlands of Scotlad) as a boy

My wife and daughter went to tea today at the Victorian Tea Room in Kailua, with the tea they enjoyed scones with lemon curd, cucumber sandwiches, curry sandwiches, chocolate and fruit slices.

When I attended graduate school in Iowa I had a colleague from the UK teach me about tea from her culture. Before that it was pretty much tea-and-bannock for this boy.
My parents had, I think, the same box of Lipton's in the cupboard from 1960 until they sold the house in 1981 . I certainly never saw any tea in any of their other residences. I recall it sat next to a jar of instant Sanka of similar vintage for the occasional guest who was decaffeinated.
Drinking fresh hot strong coffee was self-defence in my youth. Tea was outdoor caffeine because it was easier to carry and required less equipment to make.
That said, I finally learned the pleasures of eating things with tea. So much so that I have on more than one occasion been compelled to wipe my calendar clean for the rest of the day to accommodate an afternoon tea with friends .
Nothing too sweet, though. My current nibble is a variant of "Boxty" -- the Irish raw-and-boiled-potato flatbread. When I started making it I realised I like the crust best, so now I roll them very thin and it's ALL crust. Kind of like a floury, potato-y crunchy cracker the size of your plate.

Ironically, I drink tea to avoid eating snacks.

I understand that. When I am trying to lose weight, a hot cop of tea will help me stave off the munchies. Otherwise, I drink tea far too often to eat something with it every time, but I can't think of anything that doesn't go well with tea.

Same here. I love tea with a snack, but usually I drink tea by itself because Lord knows I don't need to be snacking all the time.

I agree. This isn't to say that all teas go with all foods, but I'm sure there's a "right" tea for every kind of food.

Oatmeal.
Oatmeal and tea is my breakfast every morning.
