It was a really bad Scottish accent. But a very very good Lancashire one

Not Scottish, but Hugh Laurie's American accent on House is better than most Americans!

I agree, and I'll add Jane Seymour (at whom I don't mind ogling).

Seeing the character of Jamie mentioned in the Dr Who thread reminded me that Fraser Hines did a very good Yorkshire accent for years in the UK TV soap Emmerdale Farm.

About Scottish accents, how was the woman on Extras?
On Hamish MacBeth, were the actors actually Scottish? I seem to recall that one woman also plays "moaning Myrtle" in the Harry Potter films.
About Yorkshire accents, I've often heard Brassed Off cited as an example of bad Yorkshire accents. Ewan MacGregor is Scottish, is he not?
But what about Peter Postlethwaite? His name sure sounds like a Yorkshire name.
Also the husband in Calendar Girls used "summat" and "nowt".

That would be Shirley Henderson, who is from Forres in Morray. Isobel makes my heart skip a beat! Daft wee Hamish!

Ashley Jensen comes from Annan/Dumfries, so her accent is hers, though in Extras she's comes across as more like "calm Weejin".

I have Witherspoon ancestors and know that they came to what is now Williamsburg County South Carolina, early enough to be the foundation stock for many, if not most Witherspoons in North America. I don't imagine that makes me and Reece too close to date, should the occasion or opportunity arise. The Witherspoons claimed descent from John Knox and, by extension, Robert the Bruce.
Hoots, where's me topic?

It reminds me of a corny story which happened when I worked in London. England’s own Frank Bruno was due to challenge Tim Witherspoon for his title and a Londoner friend brought up the subject.
Friend “Tonight Frank Bruno’s going to fight Tim …errr ………..”
Me “Witherspoon ?”
Friend “ no – with his fists ! Ho Ho ”
