    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Let me fill in a couple of gaps in my intro. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and then lived in Spokane, WA for several years before moving to Edinburgh. My wife is (nearly done) studying to be a veterinarian at the University of Edinburgh. We're trying our best to stay in Scotland, or at least the British Isles, after she qualifies since she'll be able to practice in both the U.K. and North America.

About my kilts: the black one is a Utilikilt Workman purchased from Celtic Craft Centre here in Edinburgh. Purchased on my wife's insistence, I actually like it quite a bit, more than I thought I would. A few days later we got a kilt for our 2 year old at the Edinburgh Old Town Weaving Company.

Walking into John Morrison a little way down the Mile we found a kilt in my size on clearance in the matching Lyndsay tartan. It's a machine sewn 5 yard casual kilt, but it met my bare minimum requirements, being made of wool and made in Scotland. It's a bit long, which actually prompted a woman to yell at me to hike my kilt up walking down Calton Hill from the torchlight procession last year, but I'll live with it.

Regarding knitting, I learned a few years ago and made a hat for H just before he was born. I haven't knitted a thing since until I started in on it again a few weeks ago. These hose are my third project, after a pair of slippers for my wife and a pair of short wool socks for myself.

Yes, my plan is indeed to eventually support my kilt addiction by selling socks. Of course, I can already feel myself developing a sock addiction. What's that they say about getting high on your own supply?

Hi Matt... welcome from the West - Glasgow!
Do you wear a kilt about Edinburgh often? I tend to see several wearers when I'm there every couple of weekends
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
