The advice is not really that cleaver, as it has got me by over the last umpteen(well OK, not that many!) decades. It is how I was taught. I think that I am a "less is more" type person and I can't help it, but I feel "uncomfortable" when I see the "kitchen sink" being worn at inappropriate occasions. For me the "kitchen sink" only comes out on very, very rare and extremely special occasions, otherwise the whole thing is devalued and what is more, a damn bother to wear!
What colour hose? Whatever comes to hand-------. No white or cream in the house.
You and EB are two of a kind-----------trouble-makers!

It's a matter of degrees
If all the other fellas are bifurcated, I'll keep it simple(r).
If I know I'm not the only kilted attendee, I'm gonna 'kick it up a notch'.
Not afraid to admit my peacock tendencies. I wear a kilt, fer bacon's sake!

I can imagine that really would be a bother......do you wear it on a chain or a strap?

More importantly, when worn, which way should the faucets point?

I knew it, I just knew it! Another bunch of comedians!
But don't forget that "our" sinks have taps.

I would have preferred to not have all the bling, Jock; something closer in appearance to the jacket etc of a tuxedo for black tie. This discussion was usually met with a quote calling me a "Lowlander."
I came to the conclusion that I aught not be considering Highland attire for black tie; after all, I'm not a Highlander, and can't defend what I wear.
If I had to attend a black tie event, I would come up with a tuxedo.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

You could always wear tartan trews, dress jacket and waist coat Ted, that is very smart indeed. If you want to wear the kilt and associated attire then go ahead. I suspect that with all the time that you have spent on this website you will know more about tartan, the kilt and its pitfalls than the average Scot.

What's with the "no white hose" in formal wear rants? According to my authority (Scottie Thompson), if you're not wearing diced or castellated hose "the purists...... insist the only correct color is white."

White hose are a hot, well nuclear actually, topic here and after the website has suffered near meltdown situations, on occasion, we now partake in good natured "sniping" at each of our respective positions. It is an issue that is never going to be resolved to any one's complete satisfaction.
