You'll not catch me without knickers. I have my reasons.
-
I usually wear something, but have and might again go 'regimental'.
-
I'm indiscriminate about underwear. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.
-
Normally I'm commando, but have covered up upon occasion.

I'm not answering either.

Holy thread grenade, Batman!! Wow, people get so offended over so little! Some people here need to take their medication and go to bed!
And for the record, I voted that I go reg most of the time. It all depends on the situation and the weather.

I voted but I see why others did not. It is trival but none the less the most obvious question those not associated with Highland dress for some reason want to know. I was asked the other day while with my extended family-the question. I proceeded to answer with the following- 1) Why is it important what I am wearing beneath-2) The mystery is half the intrigue- 3) By the way its NOBODY'S D&$N BUSINESS!
I do think it helps to inform Newbies and others that whatever they are comfortable with is the appropriate response to the question.

I voted--now the advice I got. When my friend's mom measured me for the kilt she made (before she passed away, but after she acknowledged me as her American son), she told me that you don't wear with a kilt. But, do what you are comfortabe with...

Two things offend me, neither of which is small to me. 1. That the intimate details of my life are a reasonable subject of inquiry for those I am not intimate with. 2. That some believe that the details of what I wear under my kilt has some sort of effect on the validity of my kilt. (I admit the poll really didn't address this but it is a hot button with me.)

re. 1. Of course they are not. Your response is anonymous which is how most people who have chosen to answer have done evidenced by 27 replies before this and 76 poll responses. Nobody came up to you and asked you to reveal what you do to the world. I inquired of the faceless rabble.
re. 2. Again my subtlety is lost. The perceived 'validity' of my kilting is why I am driven to ask. I read that "most go regimental" and didn't believe it. I've even been told by my clearly ignorant, non-Scots descended Sister-in-Law that I'm "No true Scotsman" if I break that convention. I am gaining a clear understanding of exactly how wrong such notions are. I'm sorry if it irks you. Please feel free to move on if so.
So far, in 76 responses we are gaining a clear understanding that the truth is most likely that, "A true Scotsman wears whatever he bl00dy well pleases or not as if it's any of your nosey business and you get to stay in the dark because the particulars of my attire are not up for discussion".

Now you may have a valid reason not to. Well done!

There are few points on this forum that, when raised, show the residents here to be less than tolerant of their fellow man, quite obnoxious and unwelcoming to new members. I'm talking, at this point, about discussions on wearing white socks and what we wear under the kilt, if anything.
As someone entirely new to kilting, I see a definite value in this poll - it was put here to help educate those who have been told "EVERYONE goes regimental and if you're not then you're not wearing it properly" that there are people who wear a kilt every day and don't go regimental. It's just as valuable resource to me as Brice's price comparison thread was.
There is the option to vote and remain anonymous, or the option not to vote at all. If you take exception to the question being asked at all, then do the gentlemanly thing at just STAY OUT OF THE THREAD. Reading beyond the question and assuming that something has been implied about your kilt is just paranoia on your part..........There is no need to come in and attack the thread starter because of the nature of the question. This is a question all of us have been asked at one time or another by a complete stranger - if we can't talk to our peers within this group about it, then who can we discuss it with? Who can we ask to see if the claims of the non-kilters are correct? Reading beyond the question and assuming that something has been implied about your kilt is just paranoia on your part.
