Terry, the different stoles are probably the personal choice of each minister.
Indeed, I have a couple. depending on the the function and the formality. Somewhere I have a listing on that the colors mean, but many these days are rainbow or multi hued.
My Senior Minister almost never wears a stole, when he does he prefers a pure white one. Another friend prefers one that her mother made her, a deep red with golden embroidery. My preferred stole is one I got from a mission in Guatemala, it is purple with gold and red and white threads.
I love the one that is tartan that Rev. Judy Hay is wearing!

I just have to ask, since I am not Presbyterian, is there any significance in the different (coloured) designs of the Stoles that are worn in the photos, or is this just a personal preference?
In this case most of the stoles don't have significant meaning, Rev. Hays is her clan, mine was given to me by the youth group that I helped lead for 3 years, and my wife's was a gift of the church she worked for.
Generally in the Presbyterian church and many mainline denominations green is for ordinary times, blue for advent, purple for lent, white for Christmas and Easter; there are others but these are the basics. For this service we elected to have "stole of choice" rather then any one color.

Thanks, I appreciate your explaining it further for me!

When I was a Presbyterian, ministers wore stoles in the colour corresponding with the church calendar
Green: Ordinary Time/Trintytide
Purple: Advent/Lent
Red: Pentecost
White: Eastertide, Christmastide

When did the Presbyterians switch over to "Sarum" blue for Advent? I thought that was something that only us "Pisskies" did.

Indeed, to make things even more confusing academic stoles reflect your area of study.
In order to qualify to take a church I am taking the equivalent of a masters; since the course requirement is essentially the same I am taking a few extra classes and will wind up with my Masters in counseling. So I'll have my theology scarlet, my counseling gold, as well as the ministerial white. Might as well just use a tartan!

No idea when, my wife's old church had the nicest advent banners I have ever seen and they were blue, the church I was at used blue and purple. Either color is acceptable though.

Congratulations on your ordination! In a lot of pagan faiths, what you wear isn't an issue... It's usually your birthday suit! I was way too shy for that, though... Your outfit looked great, I do have to say.
