Go for it. Assuming you go to a college with a large residential population there is NOTHING better for your social life than to get noticed in some capacity. Being the "kilted guy" can only help you with the ladies (or laddies, whatever your preference). This is not only because it is a unique and striking outfit, but because NOTHING sells confidence like a kilt. Wear it with pride, shrug off the attention it gets, own the kilt, and the rest will work itself out.
Just wear it appropiately depending on what classes you are attending and I'd check the college dress code just in case, especially if you are going regimental. Don't stress the system too much at first, let the administration get used to you for a while and be prepared to weather out any complaints.

I wore my kilt regularly while I was in college. My school was a small, Midwestern, liberal (very liberal) arts college, so I was dressed pretty conservatively compared to some of the other students. The kilt was received very well!

My son wears his time to time. He is currently a grad student at KSU. He would wear it more but he works in a lab and long pants are required. He went to the KU-KSU ball game Sat night wearing a Buchannan kilt. Girls seem to like it and he has never gotten any bad comments from other guys. I'd say go for it.

When I was in college in the late 1970s I was not wearing the kilt, yet, but I seem to recall seeing a kilted student every now and then.

I think this is the consensus opinion of most guys if they were honest. Most of (straight or gay) wouldn't have the balls to wear them.

Nope, that would be Kansas State University. Back in mumble, mumble when I was going to Wichita State we would call them silo-tech.

I've heard a lot of this type of feedback. Wear it with confidence, and try not to focus too much on the few negative comments from the fearful.

Yep. Happens almost every day on campus. And in the local watering-holes. You'll get used to it. Just smile (and strut) on your way.
