Thanks for recommending this film, I just watched it and was moved! I like the speech with the gypsies and the bit in the abby at the end, brought a tear to my eye. I guess you gotta have Scottish blood in your veins to be moved by it. :-)

Oh for more money to buy more kilts!

AA: My wife and I watched "Stone of Destiny" last night and loved it! When that guy climbed up on the equine statue and waved the Saltire, I had tears in my eyes. I could hardly drink my Dalwhinnie. :-) Thanks for recommending it.
I didn't see any kilts, either!? Is that historically correct for some reason, or did the makers just blow it? Some of the movie was filmed in Vancouver, BC.
By the way, the big Gipsy was the same actor who picked Duncan up in MOTG and put him in the bucket of the front-end loader. His name is Rab Affleck. He also played Robert Carlyle's hoodlum buddy in "Once Upon a Time in the Midlands".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

That's totally accurate. Very much like now, unless you were in the Highlands, you were extremely unlikely to see a kilt being worn outside of a wedding or the military.

Nigel Tranter wrote a novel about the Stone of Destiny many years ago. I found it a good read.

beloitpiper: What gives? Were/are the Scots ashamed of their highland history and trying to distance themselves from it? Or, is it kind of like in the U.S. where you don't often see folks in cowboy garb unless you're out west?
