Interesting tradition.
Yes. Absolutely.
10. BLESSING OF SEED
P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
All: Who made heaven and earth.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: May He also be with you.
Let us pray.
Lord, we earnestly beg you to bless these seeds, to protect and preserve them with gentle breezes, to make them fertile with heavenly dew, and to bring them, in your benevolence, to the fullest harvest for our bodily and spiritual welfare; through Christ our Lord.
There is another, separate blessing over bread as well.

Thanks.
I've heard beer referred to as being liquid bread.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I don't drink anymore, but I used to like spicy, peppered tomato juice in beer. It reminded me of chips and salsa.

Well it is at least from the time when Franklin was alive but I do not know if it is his or not, but here is an old punch recipe I found.
One part sour
Two part sweet
Three part strong
Four part weak
Sour is some sort of citrus, often lemon or lime. Sweet would be sugar, strong would be the Rum, and weak I had originally heard was water but then I saw an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown said that weak was really black tea.

Interesting, but I think it was more detailed than that. I recall the history professor explaining the process of making sugar and molasses, and that the sugar was in some kind of hard, cone shape that was cut into chunks with a pair of pinchers or something like that.
It was about seventeen or eighteen years ago, so hard to remember.
