That is an interesting consideration, if we add a bit of imagination to the game. If one were to receive some sort of awful curse that prevented one from imbibing all but one whisk(e)y, one should hope that it is widely available Now the desert island is everywhere
Would that change anyone's opinion? Or would you stick to your one choice even if it meant you might not have a dram available to you in many places?

Being TN born and bred, I'll go with . . . George Dickel No. 12. The other TN whisk(e)y. I find it smoother than Jack, even at 90 proof, with a wonderful caramel flavor. It's only about 18 bucks a bottle in Knoxville, which makes it a solid choice for the college crowd, but I just kept on loving it long after I could afford to buy better.

Not a bit. That's already the case with Maker's. (I haven't done a lot of traveling, but there have been about a half dozen or so places that have not had Maker's when I really wanted a bourbon. I had to settle for Jim Beam - a couple of times the only bourbon on hand.)

Ardbeg's Corryvreckan for me. Not available? Well, any port in a storm.

I've only tried a dozen or so different single malts but I would have to agree with Joshua and narrow it down to Lagavulin or Laphroig.. The peat and earthiness of the flavors are just incredible to me. As to which one it would all come down to mood. I'll go with the Lagavulin this week since it's the one I have opened..

I tried to come up with my favorite of favorites, but just couldn't do it. For me, it all depends on the season, the time of day, the weather, and all kinds of other factors. There are times when I prefer a nice Speyside, other times an Island, and then there is always a time for Islay. I even like the occasional Lowland. (and there are times when I prefer an Irish and even a good ol' USA whiskey such as Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey which I just discovered about a month ago).
Jock - for what it's worth, whenever I have a Talisker I always think of you and thank whatever gods there may be that you're still with us.

I can't do it either. I've given it a good ponder and I think I'd rather give up whisky all together than be forced to settle for just one. My main love of it is in the huge variety and I drink it to enjoy all of those and not just as a means to an end.
Incidentally, I was in a Pub with my boy on Saturday night and noticed they sold "Makers Mark" bourbon. I didn't try some as we were being sidetracked by an assembly of wonderful guest beers but I will next time. Thanks for pointing it out, I'd never heard of it before.

I'm too new and green to be able to even know the different names and makers, but I do wish I could get a little Carolina corn to Jock. I'd be interested in his opinion of it.

If I had to go with a Scotch Whiskey, I would pick The Balvenie. If I had to choose an Irish, it would be Redbreast. If I had to pick between the two...yikes! I guess I would lean toward The Balvenie.
