I say be bold and go with yellow - they'll really help bring out the thin yellow lines in the tartan. I can't wait for the pair of yellow Lewis hose from the Scottish Tartans Museum that I ordered recently.
As for flashes, I vote you go with a colour not in your tartan for some variety. If you must, match them to your shirt/sweater.
In the end, it really depends on what you (or your significant other ) like the look of!

Probably best for our British viewers this, if only from a logistic perspective.
If you go to the UK version of that popplier auction site and type or copy the following into the search bar: "lovat blue hose 9-13 sale" Up pops good quality Lovat Blue Hose at £5.49 delivered. (6 quid if you 'buy it now').
I've got three pairs of these and they are a heavy, machine washable, wool blend that allows about three turnovers giving a nice chunky top. A cracking buy... If you like light blue socks.

English Bloke those shooting socks are fantastic! Any chance you have an online source for those?
Thanks again for all the suggestions! Keep 'em coming!

You know, I should really do some looking around the interwebs before I post; would save me some time posting inane questions.
Thinking about a pair of the "Eildon" hose in Loden green from the Scottish Tartans Museum gift shop. The cuffs echo the colors of the kilt, but with a different color for the body of the hose. I think it's a similar effect to what you have, English Bloke.
