I hit a pothole that bent the front wheel of my bike. In turn the front wheel being bent locked up in the break caliper. I tried to keep the bike up but I was on the highway going 65. I hit the curb and tumbled around. My bike hit me in the back of the head as it flipped over me. My head was then propelled into the curb face first. I was wearing leather motorcycle pants a fake leather (pleather) jacket. And a full face helmut.
The Aftermath? My helmut smashed from one earlobe to the other. My pleather jacket was in shreads I lost the sole of one of my shoes and my motorcycle pants were scuffed up. I had plastic shards and pebbles imbedded into my hand. I had severe head trauma neck trauma and my back looked like hamburger. My knees were dislocated and one of them had the cartilage torn. Lots of physical therapy and lots of scars. In fact I am still in physical therapy for my neck.
Would I ride in a kilt? H3LL NO!! I wouldn't even ride in a half helmut. If I didn't have a full face helmut I wouldn't have even been able to have a open casket funeral.
Bikes are tons of fun but they are to be used with respect.
PS. This accident happened 9-10-2001. That's right I watched 9/11 from a hospital bead.
