I immediately was thinking what your branch colour was...since it's purple, I would strongly consider that. There appears to be purple hues in the U.S. Army tartan, so maybe find a purple that matches that (if matching is important for this).

Question: Are you thinking of making the cuffs of a different colour as well? I'm trying to imagine that and I am thinking it would be REALY cool. Certainly when worn with the Army tartan and the other service colour relevance, it could be a very nice and unique jacket.

Spartan...there's no purple in the Army tartan...Green, Royal-ish blue, yellow, bright green, black, and khaki...but I do agree that the Purple complements the kilt well. I am of the same mind as Brian regarding dark purple...I don't want it to trend towards the "merlot" color though...I'd want what I chose to still be clearly purple. I might have to break down and order some swatches. At $56+ per yard, I'm not willing to order the silk and hope for the best.

The cuffs will also be silk faced and match the lapels. Cording on the cuffs will match the cording on the flaps...black. The blue fabric of the jacket is so dark that you can't really distinguish between the color of the cording and the color of the fabric on the tashes. Obviously the decorative cording will "pop" against purple on the cuffs. I think it will look great and really tie together all the design elements: the flaps, cuffs, lapels, and black velvet collar.

Brian and Spartan...thanks for asking about school. It's going well. Two quarters behind me, four more (12 months) to go. I need to get rolling on my thesis proposal in the next couple of weeks. I feel as though I'm a bit behind the power curve there...but I think I have a really solid idea. What curriculum were you in, Spartan? Where are you now? You can hit me via PM or email if you prefer. My yahoo address is the same as my forum ID.
