Thanks, guys, for all of the kind comments!
It may strike some of you as crazy, but I do NOT intend to baby this kilt - hanging it in the closet for special affairs. I believe John has made it tough as nails - like an old Army kilt, as he says! - and I plan on utilizing it as my outdoor hiking, camping, hanging-out-by-the-fire kilt. It'll acquire honorable stains and dings over time, but that's what I wanted a tough, durable 'tank' for - to USE the damn thing, like the soldiers and clansmen of old.
Such a kilt is up to the task...!

A Little Help With This Tartan....
Has this version of the Black Watch tartan have a history with any military unit? Has any unit worn this tartan? I would be grateful for this information. I spent a good bit of time trying to sniff this out via Google and my efforts have come to naught.

No, the "weathered" versions of tartan are a modern innovation by the various weaving mills. Any previous weathering of fabric and kilts would be of the natural kind!

Yes, Brian didn't have decades to wait while I left it out in the sun!

Thanks for the information. I did understand weathered was a modern innovation, but I did find a list (and I can't say whether or not it is accurate) of world wide military units that included "ancient" and "hunting" amongst the tartans so it seemed a plausible question. As an aside I thought your comments on using the kilt for out door activities and the like was interesting. I will enjoy seeing photos 3 or 4 years down the road. Do you just plan to give the kilt a good brushing after use and air it out in fresh air after use? I also seem to be mistaken in believing that the pleats would require more care and attention than knife pleats, but is not the case?

That's great! As you say Woodsheal, kilts were used differently in the past. Many kilt wearers now are put off from hard use by the fact that a hand sewn wool kilt bears such a hefty price tag. I'm sure your Keltoi is up to the task, though it might end looking -- how shall I put it -- well broken in? It would be interesting to have pics taken at intervals so we can see how it holds up...

I'm a bit late but that's a fantastic kilt. And I love that you went with the weathered black watch.
