    Perhaps, Aspiring, the problem lies in trying too hard to make a “modern” kilt conform to the ridiculous fashion norm of trousers that sit on the hips.
    Personally I prefer trousers that fit the waist.
    When wearing a kilt, I definitely want something that sits in my waist, rather than run the risk of it falling off my hips.

    Mike: I didn't intentionally make it to my X Kilt measurements. I just didn't realize that I had until I was too far in to even consider picking all those stitches back out. I'm currently working on my fourth and made sure to measure myself thoroughly before even cutting the double width in half. I'm learning each time. I plan on making many more and hope that each one comes out better than the last.
