Either that or maybe a shawl(sp)?

The initial makes it a personal item, so it couldn't have been someone's curtains.

Is that, as opposed to a man's arisaid?

I'm taking a wild guess that the garment belonged to Elizabeth Cunningham, Countess of Glencairn.

Very good. And the question is...?

Talk about left of field. Where did that come from?

From left field! I said it was a wild guess. So, we aren't supposed to guess whose it was as well as what it was?

Well I suspose one can guess but with old specimens it's ususally impossible to know to whom they belonged or even where they came from beyond 'the north west' or the like.

Re: Tartan of the month - October: What do yo see?

The orientation of the embroidery makes me think that, whatever it is, it must be worn (or used) with the tartan "squared" and not "on the bias", as would be the case with a shawl.

I can't imagine it would be part of a skirt or gown, and it looks to be in very good shape for a tablecloth... and who would pin a tablecloth?

    I'm stumped.
