I'd second going to a hire place, somewhere you can try one or get measured. It's not just a question of waist size but what height you feel comfortable wearing it and consequently what length to choose. If it winds up a little loose it won't fall off, but may rotate and it's better to get it right first time than having to alter buckles and or straps afterwards.
