Re: What kilt to get?
really dig the Italian American heritage tartan. I would get one of those if Rocky can get the fabric in wool. I think I'm gonna go straight for the wool, as far as traditional kilts go. Still Split on modern or traditional though, but I know where I'm going for each, it seems. Guess in the end I'll just have to get one of each. to start out.

Re: What kilt to get?
You sound like a real kilt addict so probably best to just buy something from someone and get that addiction in gear. I've owned 26 of Rocky's kilts and 15 Utilikilts as well as Amerikilts, Freedom Kilts, and RKilts - you can't lose.
For winter in your area I'd for sure suggest wool or leather. Check out RKilts leather...yes - expensive, but also bulletproof and will last forever. Think he has a two payment plan too - should ease the financial hit a bit.
Its all good. Just stay with kiltmakers and avoid the jobbers/middlemen/importers and you'll be fine.
You can have any two of price, quality, or service....
And welcome.

Re: What kilt to get?
I got this back from my inquiry:
The tartan on the website is £35 a meter and they would need 4 meters to make a gents kilt plus postage the price to America would be about £25.

So then roughly 245 american bucks, and whatever It costs to tailor it. Hmmm. I like it, but it sounds like it might have to wait. I can't imagine the labor in constructing one of these beauties is cheap.

Re: What kilt to get?
Just wanted to update everyone who's been giving me all the advice. I ended up pulling the trigger on a survivor UK yesterday. I just couldn't make up my mind, and USA kilts, is too far to get to in the immediate future, so I figured that with all the good reviews, I couldn't go wrong here. Then I found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-yard-wool-...#ht_500wt_1287 and I wish I had waited, but I may just get this too. Seems like a great deal, and that seemed to be confirmed here when I posted the question of "Is this a good deal". now I just need to sell something around my house so I can afford it. Then I'll have a traditional and modern to start me off. Maybe that will get the monkey off my back, so to speak.

To antgrippi, if the tartan is restricted you'll probably have to ask someone's permission to wear it. As I understand it its pretty much a formality but a nice one to observe.
Thanks, Well, I wonder, since its the Italian National Tartan, and both of my parents were born and raised in Italy if I'm qualified. I really do like the Italian American heritage one that Rocky designed too though. I'd get that in a heart beat, but for almost 300 bucks just for material, That will have to wait. I am definetly going to USA kilts when I have a day, though.

As a small point of clarification, restrictions are more than just a formality. In many cases they're a nice way of saying "don't you dare weave this b/c it's mine".
In most cases, there is usually a way to obtain the tartan in question. If the designer is a retail operation (like we are), it's not uncommon for the tartan to be available ONLY through that retailer. The Scruffy Wallace, Firefighters Memorial, Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial, Italian American, etc are only available through us. ANYONE can wear them, but they have to purchase them through us.
OTHER people who register a tartan do so for their own use or their immediate family's use... a tartan designed for a wedding, for their own immediate family, etc. Those tartans generally are only designed for a few individuals and they don't want others wearing them.
Still other people put a restriction on their tartan, but are happy to let others wear it / weave it when asked. It all depends on the tartan and the individual.
Hope this info helps!
