I agree completely. I prefer the University of Glasgow tartan where blue predominates, and the other university tartans which have a balance between blue and yellow ("gold").

I think I understand where they were coming from when they designed the WVU tartan: yellow is the predominate colour seen in the stands at WVU's stadium

Thanks so much to everyone for contributing those images!

At the Vegas Games last weekend I saw a pattern book of Marton Mills' County Crest range, and their Armagh tartan was predominantly blue & gold.

Yes there's green too, but to my eye it serves to make the tartan look more "tartanlike" and less like a computer graphic design, which many of the blue & gold tartans do.

If I may borrow CessnaTowser's photo of his Co Armagh kilt...

I see that this tartan is more or less an entirely blue one, with a single yellow line.

BTW here is a link to the page about the University of California Riverside Pipe Band's blue & gold tartan. This tartan is quite lovely in person, the blue is very rich and striking.

Another Blue & Gold tartan sighting!!

A photo from a NY Tartan Day event on Ellis Island

I wonder what band it is?? What tartan it is?? Looks like University of Glasgow... but in New York??

Here's the University of Glasgow tartan for comparison. Note that it's more or less the same tartan, but with slightly different proportions, the yellow more vivid, the grey stripe in the centre of the yellow area changed to black or some other dark colour:

OK I discovered the mystery band, and the mystery tartan!

The band is The Charleston Police Pipes and Drums, and the tartan is their bespoke tartan. Nevertheless it's the same as The University of Glasgow tartan save for one stripe.

Here is the band's site. One page mentions the tartan.
