All that I can guess is that its a Buchanan muted. Otherwise i'm at a loss for words...poor wee scrap O'tartan....looks like a kilt that my dog's played tug O' war with and then the cat made a bed out of. And all that's left is a scrap no bigger than the palm of my hand. Sniff sniff.

There's a card in the photo. Goes with the tartan?

A letter from MacDonald to Wilsons - "Here's my tartan, get it right this time"
    or
A letter from Wilsons to MacDuff - "What do you think of this sample? First of it's kind. I think we'll call it a swatch. Like the colours?"

Well spotted. Not Wilsons' though. Below is the piece as it's displayed at Blair Castle.

Re: Tartan of the Month - Feb 12: what do you see

    http://www.scottish-towns.co.uk/pert...ask/index.html
he populace of Findo Gask were devoted Jacobites and on 11th September 1745 Prince Charles Edward Stuart breakfasted at Gask while on his way South from Perth. Among the Jacobite relics at Gask was a lock of hair given by Bonnie Prince Charlie to Margaret Robertson of Strowan on the day of his visit.
In the following year the house was burned and ransacked by Hanoverian troops, and the old laird and his son were banished.

February's not over, I haven't given up yet, just been very busy at work.

You didn't answer my questions/guesses in my earlier post, #19 I think.

And, I call unfair!! I thought this was tartan of the month, not 'what's that thing the tartan is attached to' month!
