Once, walking down the street, a woman actually covered her small child's eyes as we passed each other, going opposite directions. Small minds, keeping their children's minds small...

Surely your knobbly knees aren't that bad?

Does she do the same at the swimming pool or beach? IS it any wonder that racism etc still exists with people like that?
If an artist can see the beauty in different shades, colours, shapes, why can't some people in other people?

America and Britain, like any modern country, is a melange of cultures, beliefs, skin colours, etc, but I guess some people will always be neanderthals...
Thank goodness, there are those like us who are more accepting of being different.

Keep smiling and waving whenever you get the chance. Try showing her pictures of Samuel L Jackson in his kilt to share the joy of it. She'll either hate you more or she'll start to hate Sam Jackson in your stead. At any rate, I recommend killing them with kindness whenever possible.

    A wise person once said:

For you to hurt my feelings,

    first,

    I must value your opinion.

I give you this not to demean or belittle you, but rather, to help you with understanding that perhaps this person is one that you might not wish to associate with nor value the opinions of.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

It occurs to me that she may feel in some way that you are mocking her culture. I would pay it no mind, be respectful and decent always, ignore perceived slights and continue being the best person you can be. You may find in time she comes round. If not, no worry. If so then all the better.

If I lived in another land and found someone who sidled up to me and insinuated themselves into my "American" lifestyle, who, it seemed to me, tried to out-American an American then I would give pause and proceed with great caution. That might seem to them that I was shunning them. Who knows.

In another place I would be seen wearing clothing of this American culture and having an American accent and assumptions would, perhaps, be made about me. Most of those presumptions would be incorrect. It takes time and patience to sort those things out. Nothing is gained by assuming the worst. Nothing benefits anyone by going on assumptions that might be wrong.

This observation is, being small-minded takes quite a bit of time and energy which could arguably be better used becoming more cosmic, Man....

Ergo, no one but Germans should eat Bratwurst or Frankfurters. Or pretzels.Or sauerkraut. Or say "Gesundheit!"

Or their children accept presents delivered by Sankt Klaus' reindeer, Dasher und Tanzer und Pranzer und Vixen und Komet und Kupid und Donder und Blitzen...und of course, Rudolf.

    Only Italians should eat spaghetti.

If you are not Chinese, step away from that egg roll. Drop those chopsticks and keep your hands in plain view.

You are not Mexican, you can't have a Chiuhauha!

Unless you are French, eating that croissant is a no-no, enforcable by the Pastry Police.

You are not Korean, you can't drive that Hyundai.

Lawsuits should be pending against all non-cowboys and non-farmers wearing blue jeans.

    Where will it end...?
