Is it just me or has the forum editing software and presentation been changeable the past few weeks? Every time I post something, it looks different from the last time I did so.

Yeah, the forum has been updated and kiltedcodewarrior has been forced to implement a few things bit by bit.

It's been raining here for the last 10 days so no outdoor activities. On the days it didn't rain, the grounds were too muddy to do anything.

It would be nice to see the sun every now and then.

After the past three weeks, I think the water table has been replenished, though I suppose the snowpack is still low.

Thought I'd mix things up a little (the famous or infamous Weider "Muscle Confusion Principle") by throwing in the morning and lifting in the afternoon.

    April 19, 2012

    Morning

    10lb Hammer
    3 throws (no measurements taken)
    12lb Hammer
    4 throws (no measurements taken)
    16.6# Stone
    6 throws w furthest being 31"

Interesting to note that I can stand the stone further than I can glide/3 step/spin it. I'm officially old and have lost my springy legs. In retrospect, I forgot my cue to keep my pushing shoulder low and follow the hip.

    Afternoon

    Bear
    1x8x65
Snatch Grip Deadlift - 12" blocks
    1x5x135
    2x1x2252-255
    2x5x275-295
    Incline Bench Press
    1x10x45
    3x3x95-135-155
    8x3x135+Chains
    Core Blaster
    1x10x80
    Hanging Knee Raise - Oblique
    1x10
    Short Range Chin Up
    1x10

I definitely felt the difference in the lifts and am feeling puny today. Next time, throw one day and lift on another. Maybe.

I can't glide any farther than I can stand the stone, either. No "boingggg". Or something. Well, it simplified matters, right? One less thing to practice.

*Added some foolishness to this workout with the Monster Mini Band. Looped the band around the back of the rack and did "shot puts" against the tension. Stretched the band to the point that I could just barely reach full extension. Worked both left and right to balance the effort. This was an interesting experiment that deserves more study.

**Also did triceps pressdown/extension by looping two Monster Mini Bands over the top or the rack and held them behind my neck overhead to start. Pressed/straighten my arms against the load. This was also an experiment but I don't think it has much application to the games.

I"ve used the black-level bands (with handles) with a shotput-type motion in the past. I have no idea as to whether it helps or not, but one thing I noticed is that I can move my arm quicker that way.... quicker than pulling against a roughly equivalent load on a cable machine. I think that's good, seeing as arm strike is important in stones...

It's about time I got back in to the garage gym. Spent the weeking driving up and down the state for a family visit. Of course, road food and a general lack of sport related activity doesn't help nor does sleeping in hotel beds. Glad I went on the trip but it's good to be home.

No throwing activities to report. ~sigh~

The pec deck and pressdowns are in there for a little bit of hypertrophy as we geezers need to protect our muscle mass...especially on the upper body.

Looks like no Modesto Games this year for me. No 60+ class. Oddly, the 50-59 class is largest class on the field. Go Geezers!
