I should have never read this thread. 80)
My packaged left Scotland yesterday, arrived in Ottawa, ON, CA (where I live) last night and went to customs and was quickly cleared. The delivery date is listed as today and I couldn't help but get excited about how fast I could get my package.
Next thing I see, my package is on it's way to Memphis. It has since left Memphis and is in transit to where I don't know.
Having bought Apple products online, I know that everything makes it to Memphis as I suspect this is the main hub. I don't think I will see it today but tomorrow is a good possibility.

Well, 3 more phone calls in the last 24 hours, and the package is still in Memphis. Spoke with a supervisor at 5AM to express a little displeasure. Also called Stewart at Scotweb to bring him up to date. He's been in touch with FedEx UK, as well, to try to poke this thing from that end. We both agree there's nothing "priority" about the way the package is being handled, and there's certainly no "service" in the fact that FedEx hasn't made a single effort to update either Scotweb, or myself, about the status of the package.

Same here. I just ordered a Balmoral 8-yard kilt from Scotweb. The only consolation is that the kilt will likely be under the Royal Mail weight limit.

My shipment is back in Ottawa and appears to be on a truck headed to my house. Too bad I'm at work!
Just got dinged duty too which I was hoping to avoid...

As of 5PM Eastern today, the package is still in Memphis. The issue was escalated through a few managers, and late this afternoon i was told that the hang-up was that the U.S. Fish and Game had some questions about the shipment, though FedEx did not know what the questions were about. Since Fish and Game deals with any animal product, I can only guess that any questions they have are about what kind of leather the brogues are made of. I told FedEx that I find it remarkable that Customs, Fish and Game, and FedEx must all expect the answer to whatever questions they have will just drop into their lap, without conveying the question to either the sender or the recipient, to answer. And of course, they can't find out until at least tomorrow!
FedEx has promised to call me at 2PM tomorrow, after they've caught up with Fish and Game to learn the question. And of course, if they decide only then that only Scotweb can answer their questions to their satisfaction, we'll have to take into account that Scotland is 6 hours ahead of Memphis, and by 2PM Eastern, Scotweb will have already gone home for the day. :/
I told FedEx to be prepared for tomorrow's discussion to also include arbitration for a refund/discount/removal of their brokerage fees. I have no problem paying the Customs/Import duties. But FedEx has NOT earned their brokerage fees, in my mind, as they are miserable at staying on top of things, and they do NOT keep the customer informed as to what is happening.
I'll call Stewart in the morning, to give him a heads-up about Fish and Game needing info, in the event he wants to pre-emptively prepare any additional info about the shoes.
I have dealt with FedEx for dozens of domestic deliveries over the past two years, and have never had an issue or problem. But my experience with this, and the previous international shipment two weeks ago, has demonstrated unquestionably, that FedEx's International Customs brokers have no concept of what Customer Service is. They are deliberately indifferent, and the call logs for my packages are proof of their failings.

Did you order a sporran or antler sgian? Those are the only things I think USF&W could POSSIBLY have questions about. Both should have to be labeled for content on the shipping manifest.
When I post product to the UK I have 3 required forms to fill out for NON-game product, one more for USF&W if it's game product.
If you didn't order either of those two things and since this is for your personal use I find it awfully difficult to believe that USF&W is paying that close of attention to your SHOES.
Shoes are almost always calf or cowhide (unless we're talking cowboy boots or some flash ostrich / croc skin dress shoe, but I don't really see that happening with Ghillies).
Keep us posted.

Nope... I eye-balled the order, and the only animal product I can find would be the leather shoes (and the leather tassels on the brogue laces), and perhaps the leather straps on the kilt. Otherwise, there's just the kilt, a couple skirts, a sash, and two toy stuffed teddybears, for my nieces.
Based on what I saw with the last order, Scotweb does a great job documenting what's in the shipment, in the Commercial Invoice, etc. So I can only guess at what the question is.

Then I'm calling BS on FedEx. I find it really REALLY hard to believe USF&W is worried about a pair of relatively plain shoes. Brogueing aside, there is nothing on Ghillies that would remotely indicate ANY game animal. Even more so on a kilts leather straps.
