I said it on another earlier thread. When a contingent of Gordon's came to our 100th Anniversary in 1991, they snapped pictures of us like Japanese tourists. I could not figure out why. I asked, and a Gordon Sgt. said, this is living history of their Regiment as they lost much of heritage through standardization and cost cutting measures.
They have sadly lost even more with 2 rounds of Amalgamation, and now the Royal Regiment of Scotland where they depend on small retained accoutrements to represent their proud Regimental Heritage.
From this side of the pond, it didn't seem like there was much of a fight against amalgamation. What was your perspective on it from where you are?
