The story goes that For generations Catholics were not employed at the Bushmills distillery. However, the Jamesons did. Truth or not? I don't know but I do prefer Jameson.

Unfortunately our state regulates the price and it stays consistent for the month. On a good note....by buddy distributes Jameson in the area so I get it below retail
My preferred list is as follows......
Middleton - (Almost too good, truly the water of life.)
Jameson 18 year (American bourbon barrels, yummmm)
Jameson Gold (3 Vintages in New oak, bourbon barrels and Sherry cask)
Red Breast 15
Red Breast 12
Jameson 12 Year (w/less Bourbon barrels extra time is needed to get toasty)
Jameson (Damn fine sherry Whiskey, but I prefer it a little nutty)

Re: Irish Whiskey?
I would have to say Paddy's Irish whiskey would be my favorite, then Jameson 18 yr.

I haven't yet tried it, but your opinion seems to be pretty universally shared among those who have. You just bumped it over to my "to do" list.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
A certain friend of mine insists that Jameson is the finest (regular, plain old, everyday) whiskey known to man. I, however, prefer Bushmills Black Bush and Redbreast 12 year. In reality, I've never had an Irish whiskey that I didn't like.
A few that I have tried only once, really enjoyed, and would like to try again are: Green Spot, Connemara, and Middleton Very Rare.
Is Connemara the only peated Irish whiskey? It definitely has a more robust impact, which leans it towards the weight of Scotch but with some of the sweetness I expect from an Irish whiskey.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
Chalk me up as a Jameson guy, at least when it comes to Irish whiskey. (I'm more of a Scotch man myself...) The local pub pays in Jameson if we pipe well!
For the record: my Celtic heart only truly loves Islay Scotch. Anything else is but a mere shadow...

There are several actually, though they're no longer the norm in Ireland. Slieve na gCloc, which I mentioned above, is one.

I never even thought to check my local TJ's here. I'm not even sure if they sell liquor. I'm stuck on the three buck Chuck (I've said before that I have a lack of taste and class). Thanks for the tip. Will look for it this weekend!

I'm with you sir. Some are better than others, but I've never had what I would call bad.
I float between Jameson and Bushmills, depending on which one is on sale at the moment, and have had my share of Tullamore Dew.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
For this muttly Scotch-Irish fellow I prefer Jamison, though I have had much better, I seem to gravitate to it when buying. Tomorrow, as is my tradition, I will be going to church as I do every St. Patrick's day, then I shall have a couple fingers of jamisons whiskey before embarking on a hybrid style day being kilted, flat capped, kilt hosed and buckle shoed. I will end the night with a dram of "Feckin Irish whiskey" and a quick prayer for the sins of the day.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
Some Irish whiskey is better (to me, of course) than some single malts. I won't mention any names, so I don't "insult" your favorite whisky, but I include those mostly (though not exclusively) lowland malts that have a grassy, (some say) citrus, winey, cloying aspect that I drink from time to time, but can only take in small doses.
My favorite Irish whiskey is Paddy.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Don't think we'd ever see him having a dram. He's been known to call the stuff 'the devil's buttermilk'.
It seems absolutely crazy to me that, as a Catholic from the north of Ireland (quite close o the bushmills distillery) that I couldn't order a type of whiskey in some bars in American due to it being 'Protestant'.
These types of people give Irish-Americans a bad name here.
