Chas - you made me check my black night stalker from SWK, only a couple of months old - no true lining - it is double layer on back and divider. The front and edges are single layer nylon.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

I've seen plenty of lined sporrans. All of Ferguson Britt's sporrans are lined with elk suede. I've seen many dress and day sporrans from manufacturers in the UK and in North America with a lining, often red, but not always. I've also seen many sporrans not lined.

I don't think you can chalk it up to quality one way or another. I've seen sporrans made with the highest quality leather (such as Ferguson Britt) which are routinely lined. I've also seen high quality sporrans unlined. I've also seen el-cheapo sporrans made both ways.

Kineticat - I ended up going this route on the closure after thinking it through.

I have four. None are lined. Three are of excellent quality - Kinloch Anderson horsehair & silver, McRostie plain in the fantastic Dark Havana color, a black Grenadier Sporran from Wyvern and a plain brown hacker from What Price Glory. None are lined. Three of superior quality and one I don't mind if I have to carry fish in.
