I have attended a couple of dozen medieval faires in Germany, most of them in some level of kilted garb. Never had an unkind word from anyone and being kilted often lead to conversations with costumed participants and guests in everyday modern clothing. I think there is a different feeling for those events from the SCA type events here in the states (I've been to a number of those also) Some of the German events take place in towns and villages, and castles that actually date to anywhere from 400 to 600 years ago!
My personal opinion is that wearing a kilt casually to a modern Renn Faire takes nothing away from the sprit of the Faire and may possibly open some folks to the idea of getting a kilt for themselves, at least based on conversations I've had. So far I've not been called to the Royal Court to answer questions, but the discussion here has given me some good responses!.
Thanks
