This day is never overlooked.
Father went ashore at Utah Beach from USS LST-75 with the US Army 269th Field Artillery (Super Heavy), Battery C, an M1 240mm Howitzer named "Casino." Two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts before his 21st birthday. Normandy, the Breakout, Hurtgen Forest, The Bulge, Metz, The Rheinland. Sadly, he never got over it entirely and the ordeal contributed to an early passing.
Eternal honour and thanks to those who fought to free the world.
Interestingly, the unit was in Scotland before the invasion and he spoke fondly of the people and beautiful country.

This day should never be overlooked, but I find that less and less is said as the years go by. We should never forget the debt we owe them.

Thank you for sharing, and thank you to your uncles for their honourable service - they flew one of the best aircraft ever created and one of the most beautiful!
Best wishes,

This Sailor will always remember them. Not from meeting with them directly, rather by meeting them in the Sailors that they taught who, in turn, taught me. Hopefully, the Sailors that I taught will also remember them through my teachings.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.
