Heh, I was wondering if she was the one. She did two jacket conversions for me a while back, and I was happy.

I like to poke around at Goodwill too. You can find some amazing stuff there at dirt-cheap prices. Harris Tweed jackets seem to be pretty commonly seen, in my experience. I've purchased a number of them from Goodwill. Some for conversions, some for just wearing to work with trousers. My wife and I occasionally make an entire Saturday of going around town to all the Goodwill stores and looking for bargains. It's a lot of fun if you've nothing else to do for the day!

Excellent idea Tobus, problem is we're so darn busy! I'm going to keep an eye on the closest one to me where I picked up this Harris Tweed jacket. Can't hurt. They had plenty of other jackets that would have worked too, just not in my size. We may be near the big one in Albany tomorrow too...

To test the legitimacy of claims that you can find Harris Tweeds in thrift stores, I can confirm that this is beyond the urban legend! Here in FL I found one. Sadly it was too large for me. Found another jacket that I may consider converting. But.. I like it so much, I may just wear it as is.

Cecil, it was either a 44 or 46 from what i'd guess. I wish I took a shot of it. Was something that would not have matched my kilt (mostly black/red). The color was a brownish if my memory serves me correctly. Kind of like this:

Nonetheless, I think today it was half off, so you'd pay 5-7 dollars. Unfortunately mine was not on sale, but still only forked over 10 dollars.

Mine was probably size smaller than I should wear but it looks like a 60's mod style, tighter than usual. Borderline too short, as the sleeves are a tiny bit shorter than what they should be. Will post it up on another thread as I am debating what to do with it. If you want more details on that jacket, hit me up.

Here's a pic of my jacket, freshly dry cleaned before it heads out tomorrow for the left coast.

    Enjoy!
