Here is our chief's standard:



The standard is something like a "headquarters" flag, its principal use being as a marker to designate the gathering point of the clan. As such, it does not indicate the presence of the chief, merely the place where his clan is to gather. ~MoR


And this is his banner:


The banner depicts the chief's coat of arms on a rectangle and is only displayed when the chief is present to denote his physical location. It may be carried in a procession or flown from a flagstaff at the chief's tent (or anywhere else the chief may be). Some chiefs permit their banner to be displayed inside a clan tent as a way of showing their arms -- when this occurs the banner should be displayed as a wall hanging, and not on a flag pole. ~ MoR

I like the old tradition of having the saltire in the hoist.

I suggested a similar version using the arms of the U.S.A. in the hoist on another site when designing my flags and I thought they were going to hang me for it.

A quick look at fifty-five Scottish standards shows forty-one with the arms in the hoist, so the saltire is definitely in the minority.
