Actually my staff is just my regular hiking/birding staff I use on the trail that I made ages ago. I had drilled a hole all the way through the shaft for a leather thong (normally neatly wrapped around the stick until needed.)
The bells are meant to hang around a door.
The wonderful homemade Father Christmas outfit is a borrowed one and I literally had an hour once receiving it before I went to my the Holiday Fair at my daughter's school. I was almost out the door when thought a staff with bells would be a nice touch. I just removed the leather strap from the stick and tied the bells to it through the hole using nylon cord and then covered the cord with a ribbon. It took all of about 5 minutes but I will admit that I was very pleased with the effect. When I walked around the Holiday Fair (before settling into my seat for the kids) it made a nice jiggling sound announcing my presence.
Here is a photo of me and my first "customer", my lovely daughter who was thrilled to have a "Daddy Christmas"
