I first got the bug in 2012. I received my first kilt on 09 July 2012. I wear it about once every week or two. I plan to order my second one soon.
No kilting tradition in my family but I'm hoping to set a trend.

None in my family, either. I'm waiting for my first kilt to be made, and will do a family debut at a reunion during my vacation in June, since they all live 800 miles away.

My first time wearing the kilt was in 1992. I remember being very excited that I was finally big enough to wear my dad's horsehair sporran, which I had been eyeing for years.
I finally got my own kilt in 2008 when a buddy was getting married and asked me be kilted in his wedding party. Now that I don't have to beg and borrow to kilt up, I wear Highland attire a bit more frequently, though I rarely find occasions to wear my dad's old horsehair sporran.

Early 1986. I had been in work a year or two and had enough money to go to Edinburgh and buy my first kilt; I had always wanted to have one since I was a young boy.
I still wear the same Modern Gordon kilt but it has had to be remade to accommodate my middle aged form! Kilt number 9 was ordered on Sunday.

In 1998 or 1999 I got a piece of fabric to wear as a great kilt at the ren faire. I didn't wear it anywhere else, though. Around 2001 my sister bought me a utilikilt workman. I wore the utilikilt infrequently, because it was too long for me. Once I figured that I could have it shortened (Duh) I realized how comfortable it was, and planned to order another. I was saving up my pennies to get a new utilikilt. When a friend pointed out that there were other kilts out there (another Duh) I got an SWK Black Watch. Since then I've purchased at least 3 more kilts. For the past 8 months, or so, I've only worn p@nt$ when at work.

While I had an interest for years I was never in a position to own a kilt until five years ago. Once a non-supportive wife became an "ex" I was free to pursue the kilt. For the first couple of years wearing the kilt was only for selected events. Now I wear them about 50% of the time.
