Note, that his father does not. Each to their own.

Here's a few more images of the Duke of Rothesay's Highland evening attire, which I culled from Google. Nothing new per se, just different angles.

AWESOME!!! I have perused Google Images time and time again and haven't seen all but one of the photos in which you discovered, Colin.

Yep, HRH's doublet is definitely green!

The more that I see HRH Prince Charles' Balmoral doublet, the more I really like it. I believe that if you are a relatively fit and trim guy the majority of the time and throughout your life, just as HRH has been and still is, this would be an ideal, go-to doublet for black tie occasions where Highland dress is worn. I have never seen photos of the reverse side of the doublet. I'm quite fond of the length of the flaps, or "tashes" below the leather belt - not too long and not too short and stubby - I think they're just right. I also like how there are no buttons on the cuffs of this particular style of evening doublet, though I think it would still look smart with the addition of buttons in some sort of a traditional arrangement. I am curious about the buttons and would love to see a detailed image of them, if that even exists.

Thanks for sharing, these are outstanding!

    Cheers,

    Great Finds, Colin! Thank you.

    Cheers,
Indeed they are outstanding. One thing I hadn't seen/noticed before on this doublet is it's lack of buttons on the cuffs. I really like this.

    Me too, Scott.

I have seen this before on another velvet Highland evening doublet in a very similar colour green (if not the same) that Sir Lachlan Hector Charles Maclean of Duart and Morvern wears. However, you will observe that Duart's "doublet" is actually more along the lines of a Prince Charlie Coatee completely done in gorgeous velvet (a bit like what Kinloch Anderson offers), complete with a matching waistcoat. The only difference being the absence of buttons on the cuffs, the rear tails and no epaulettes with buttons. You will also see salmon buttons made of silver in place of the more typical, round or lozenge shaped buttons.

The present Duke of Argyll has very similar buttons on his doublet of claret velvet, which makes sense, since the Macleans and the Campbells are traditionally located in the west coast of Scotland in Argyllshire, where the salmon was held sacred as a totem or a talisman by many clans in that particular area. The same can be applied to my own clan and other Clan Chattan clans with the Scottish Wildcat as a totem, and also the crest of several Clan Chattan clan chiefs and armigers.

You are correct, and I thought I'd corrected my original typo to reflect that they are wearing the Swedish order of the Seraphim, but obviously goofed somewhere along the line. The reason I changed it in the first place is that's King Carl-Gustav of Sweden with the Queen, so it seemed rather unlikely anyone would be wearing a Danish order.

I too, enjoy how HRH dresses. I would like to see, however, how Prince William and Prince Harry dress in Highland wear. It would be interesting to see any stylistic differences among the younger Royals. perhaps iy wpuld demonstrate yhe evolution of traditional dress?

Sorry if this derails the thread.

You might have to wait a while. I've not seen a pic of the boys in Highland wear since they were lads. More's the pity.
