Yet more excellent advice. Nice to find a fellow clansman Bren, Virtutis Gloria Merces! I'm finding all of your advice helpful!
In response to your question Stan, just from the look, I personally think the chrome and antique Celtic buttons look more "razzle dazzle" and would look better on a night out of dinner and dancing (at a céilidh or other wise). To me though as a Scot I think the Horn button looks brings a traditional feel to the look, I personally think making it suitable for formal events such as weddings or funerals not just day events.
That being said, I'm in my twenties and my generation (age 20s) of Kilt wearers are very much part of the "Kilt Hire" culture and the "matchy matchy" look is certainly "in", however with my Kilt I aim to Stand out as a Highlander, Which Is one of the Reasons I'm sorting my day look out first. When the time comes for the formal jacket choice I'm planning on the Sherriffmuir, over the more commonly worn Prince Charlie and Argyll jackets.

Could be the best advice ever.

I look forward to your participation. It will be interesting to see the point of view of a 20-something from Scotland as insight to what the younger generation sees/views as appropriate.

Thanks for you opinion, and as a gent several times your age, while the "eclectic" look seems to be what a lot of people like, I like "matchy-matchy" too.

Dont be afraid of color. Every color in your kilt has a opposite & 2 complimentary color (plus all the tints & shades).
Get the best you can afford.
The little things can make a good difference. A bright tie or a pocket square can make a look.

I agree, lots of hose and flashes to change the look....at a thrift store in town I purchased a Harris Tweed Jacket in mint condition for $7.50 had a tailor alter to become a tweed jacket (that cost me $80) and I came out way ahead of buying one new....
