Beautiful Bespoke Horsehair with Day Wear
I promised long ago to post some photos of Scott's wonderful bespoke Duff/Broughton/Heintz/Huber Silver on Bronze Horsehair Sporran dressed "down" with my day wear Harris Tweed and plain brogues. The sporran was commissioned for my daughter's wedding in June 2013 and intended to be worn with full Evening attire. (Those photos are in other threads.) However, when the sporran arrived I realised instantly that the colour palette easily lends itself for day wear. This was a bonus for me because it means I can be much more flexible and use it in a variety of settings. In actual fact, I think I prefer it dressed down with tweeds because (to me, at least) it looks very reminiscent of the great MacLeay paintings we all know and love so much.

These photos were taken at a small family gathering in Glasgow on Hogmanay. The hose are by Josh Brown at SHO and I love the way they compliment to colours in the MacDuff Hunting tartan and the sporran. The brogues are simple Cap-toe Oxfords by Loake. I've had them for more than 25 years. (Lovingly looked after with good cedar shoe trees and heaps of regular mid tan polish with good badger brushes.)
For even less formal occasions, just around the house and out on the hill, I use plain solid colour Harris wool in Lewis cable knit hose in earthy tones which are almost as old as the shoes. (Sorry, no pics of these yet.)

Finally... with Anne.

So, what's the verdict? Does Scott's Horsehair Masterpiece work outwith the Evening Wear context? Of course, it will be (as ever) a matter of personal taste, and what a person may, or may not feel comfortable wearing. Personally speaking, I rather like it and feel very comfortable with it in any circumstance. What say you?
