Highlander-you're right! I pulled up the original and the fringe is touching. I'll include it in the next training day.
EagleJCS-thanks for the info on the sporran. That too, will be addressed as well as the kilt height. I'm trying to convince the troops that they are worn higher and that it's the "cool" thing to do.

Show them this thread. That will convince them, if nothing will!

BCAC- Perfect! I honestly hadn't thought about that. We have a Colors presentation today and we will discuss these topics before hand.
Thank you gents for the detail work! Its been like herding cats. Very literally, a month ago we had 8 troopers total, in Saxon attire. Now we have 18, including a piper, in Kilts! I get focused on making sure the pleats are in the back! Thanks for the second set eyes.

That can happen when the flag and pole aren't matched.
Warning,...a slight sidetrack is about to happen.
I've been accused of being a bit "over concerned" when it comes to the standards for "Old Glory", and I must admit I can see why people would think that. However, with that being said, there have been more than a few occasions when the first sight of the stars and stripes in the distance was the prettiest sight in the world, and those who haven't experienced similar moments,...just can't understand it.
Returning to your regularly scheduled thread.
Sounds like you've had your hands full organizing this unit.
Congratulations for taking control and moving it forward towards fruition. I for one, look forward to hearing how it progresses over the following months.

I definitely appreciate that moment.
I also appreciate your responses. We had another presentation today, and the boys were much sharper. Clean lines, a little knee, proper flags (brought our own), good spacing between buckle and sporran... A rather good showing.

Improvement with each outing,....a proven path to reaching the goal.

I know the feeling; I'll stop my car to talk to managers of businesses who need to replace their flags. Of course, this is a thread about a color guard, so it should be noted this isn't a sidetrack. The treatment of the flag is as much, if not more, important as to whether the unit looks good or not. The sharpest uniforms, but sloppy treatment of the colors? Ugly unit. Good start on the uniform, beautifully treated colors? Beautiful unit.
My suggestion: smiles. I don't know why so many color guards don't smile. Unless you are acting as guard for a memorial service, why not smile?

See, there he goes again!
Deirachel- We should smile more. Too much military training.....we never smiled! We will be spending a bit more time on the flag etiquette. The guys all have a grasp, but a serious dose of " what it really means" won't hurt.
