For less formal wear, it is the tartan skirt, trews (if you are built like the lovely Mr. Jock Scot, and can look good in them), or a tartan accessory.
Hello Victoria, how are you doing?
Whilst you may well think that I am lovely . I think probably, you mean Mrs Jock Scot, who is considerably more lovely than I!

Yep, I've seen the LL Bean one on the internet but hadn't ordered one yet (I hinted at it for Christmas lol, but nobody took the hint. Next year I'll just treat myself).
Thanks for the Flickr stream CTB! Will explore it tonight with her.
Angie I'm glad you found your muse - I'm hoping my wife will find hers too! Keep on kilting!
Victoria you never need to apologize to me for being passionate about what you believe in. I can't promise you I'll never do anything stupid with regards to the kilt but I CAN promise it will never be done for the reason of being disrespectful. It would be more out of lack of knowledge and the more I read X-Marks the less chance there of that. :-) I'm not even sure what the regency style is but I can pretty much guarantee my wife will never go for anything tavern wenchy.

Yes the 'tavern wenchy' look seems to be a cross over from the Renaissance Fair crowd along with the pirate look which pops up now and then as well.

My only clan affiliation is to clan Callaghan, being part Irish and not the least Scottish, and whilst I have a number of kilts, I don't have one in the family tartan (too expensive). My wife, OTOH, belongs to Clan Davidson, but all she has in her clan tartan is a wooly scarf. To be fair, she does own a pin with her clan crest, but AFAIK has never actually worn it! I once offered to buy her a Davidson kilt in something like a 36" drop (I forget what you call that particular length in a ladies kilt), but she wasn't interested. Even if we were to somehow both appear at the same time and place in tartan, I can guarantee we would be sporting (at least) two different setts!

I am lucky in that my beautiful wife has embraced my Scottish side and wears our family tartan proudly. She is 100% Polish and I've often looked for material in the one of the two or three Polish tartans out there but I've never been able to find it. http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar....aspx?ref=5852

lol, my wife's maiden name is SMith but as far as I know there's not much chance it's the SMith clan from Scotland. Most likely English although I have no idea if any of them have done any research at all further back than her grandma from Georgia. (That's USA Georgia lol) I'm mostly just happy she has decided to join in the fun but ecstatic that she likes my clan tartan.
