When I returned home from work this evening, I had a package from Grimsby, Ontario waiting for me...

It appears to be the same MK as my other, though it has a good deal more shine to it, and seems in good condition. Quite a steal at US$55,

Wow!
That's a fantastic looking cantle! I hope mine is as nice... It doesn't look like there's and lacquer left on yours at all.
Cheers,
Cameron

From what I've been told, there shouldn't BE any lacquer on them "officially speaking". That said, lots of Jocks must have done it on the sly or after these were phased out of service, as I've had at least half a dozen come into the shop for rebagging
with chipped lacquer and corrosion spreading underneath. And whatever they used is absolute MURDER to shift.
Honestly, with the snap on snap off nature of the bag I don't really understand the point of lacquer. It's a moment's work to remove the bag and give it a quick polish with brasso, and if you're going to be
touching up the blanco anyway (yuck) you've already got the bag apart...

I thought it was an odd thing to do as well, but from the original email I received: "They are from an 1950's issue to a Canadian Highland Regiment and I believe they are the Mark II model. They are in good repair with the normal wear and tear of military use. Originally, the cantles were polished bright and then lacquered and on most this lacquer has partially worn off, so you'll have to do a bit of polishing."
I think I'll just send it to a metal polisher, rather than go through what sounded like a huge ordeal. I am looking forward to making a couple of different bags for this cantle, I think it'll be a very versatile purchase.
Cheers,
Cameron

Am I alone in not liking these cantles and being amazed at the price some people are willing to pay for one? Still, we can be thankfull that we all have our own personal tastes.

I'm sure you aren't alone in your dislike of these cantles. But given that the purpose of this thread was to offer enthusiasts of said cantles the opportunity to purchase one or more, I'd say your view is definitely in the minority in this thread.
Vive la différence, right?
Cheers,
SM

I was away on a business trip yesterday, but looky what I found in my office when I got back!
What an insane bargain this was, compared to the first one I bought for nearly 4 times the price, and in much worse shape. This one will be a breeze to clean up and polish.
Sean, thank you for being generous enough to share your source with the rest of us. What you should have done is buy all of them and then sell them off one by one for a handsome profit.
