39 kilts
39 kilts, not bad.
In the Guiness book?
But, Hamish, unless you lend or hire out these kilts on a regular basis, rather than leaving them hanging in your enormous wardrobe, the public will never see more than one of them at a time. Very selfish of you! You are lining the kiltmakers' pockets (why not? There are worse people on this earth), but you are not furthering the cause (assome kilties say). By sharing out your wonderful collection, on the other hand, you could have 39 kilted gentlemen out there on the streets of Sussex every day of the year. Think of the impact that could make.
When will you be moving to a bigger house?
Martin,
In Grenoble, France.

Not by any means, Martin. I have heard of several larger collections than mine. One fellow I met briefly in Scotland has something like 200, but he grabs them up from absolutely anywhere and no matter in what moth-eaten condition. Most, he told me, are unwearable!!

Martin! Really! Do you lend or hire out YOUR own clothes to others? These are MY clothes. I am not a Kilt Hire Company!!!! My aim (if I have one) is to build a 'Kilt Kollection' containing examples of as many forms of kilt as possible. I am fascinated by the rapid development of the kilt in my own lifetime; the modern variations on the traditional (whatever "the traditional" really is), and what its future might be. However, I must be able to wear every kilt I own - that is why they are all obtained as new (or very nearly new in a couple of cases!). Two kiltmakers (no names, no packdrill) have already expressed an interest in acquiring my 'Kollection' intact at some point in the future, but I might well have opened a kilt museum myself by then! 8)

I have no plans for that (at the present time) but I am reaching the point where I'll no longer be able to accommodate guests in my spare bedroom!!

Lance, this is some nice stuff. http://www.bestfabric.com/cgi-bin/sh.../SID=646920039
The pic is pretty crappy but there's a better one in my gallery. The price is pretty good and the fabric is nice.

kilts in closets

Most of my clothes no-one would want to wear, but one or two of my kilts, as it happens, yes, I have lent them to friends from time to time – though, to be honest, it's not my favourites that I lend!
It just seems such a pity to think of all those beautiful garments (not costumes!) of yours hanging unappreciated in the dark with the moths and the mothballs.
"I might well have opened a kilt museum myself by then!"
Kilts are not for museums !!!
Can you think of anything so dull as 39 kilts on hangers or wax models?
No swing, no waggle, no life !
What next?
How about adopting 30 sons and dressing them appropriately?
(off topic: have you noticed how the Europeans talk to the other Europeans on this forum, while the Americans amuse each other? It's good thing we have a Tasmanian (hi, Graham!) to keep the two communities together.

Don't forget us Canucks! We talk to you guys across the puddle as much as we talk to the Americans.
(We like to keep everyone amused.)
