You're right. Not an easy thing to do with a chain! I'm going to stop a a local Tack/Saddle Shop to see if I can find a suitable strap. I had a strap a long time ago and was stupid enough to cut it up to repair a camera bag strap. I'm wishing now I hadn't done that.

I am with Nelson. I love to wear my Tevas with my kilt. It gets way to hot here for Kilt Hose sometimes.

Not this traditionalist, Blu! I would never dream of wearing sandals with a kilt, nor short socks. Same without a sporran. I have worn a t-shirt once with a kilt, and hated every minute of it - so I wear Oxford-style outdoorsy shirts from LL Bean, Woolrich, etc., I go for an almost "quasi-military or park ranger look" when I go casual, because I like the look, and I am a park ranger. (In fact, I've thought about getting a kilt in the Muir tartan in honour of John Muir.) I don't mind a ball cap or a slouch hat with a polo shirt or one of the Oxford style shirts, though.

Call me a bluff old traditionalist, but I bought a kilt because I like the traditional look. That doesn't mean I'm in intolerant of anyone who doesn't do this. On the contrary.

Casual wear:

Kilt - Call me silly, but I think the belt and sporran look funny on me without it!

Belt - IMHO the kilt looks a little "off" without the belt.

Sporran - where else will I put all my stuff?

Socks & boots - AKA Duncan-style

and some sort of shirt; ie t-shirt, polo or sweater.

I hardly ever wear hose casually, occasionally in the winter. Around the house I may dispense with the sporran and wear thongs, there are no shoes allowed in our house. We live pretty much casually all the time anyways with no need to get dressed-up unless for a wedding.

Ok, here goes. I were my kilts with a pin mostly to help the apron stay down in the breeze. A sporran because I need a place for wallet, keys and smokes. The shirt depends on what I'm doing. To look nice a button down, on most occasions a T-shirt. Socks depend on the shoes. Sandals, no socks. Running shoes and dress shoes I wear socks and I wear my white socks pushed down with my combat boots. A belt depends on the kilt and the occasion. I do like my kilt belt though because it does give me some back support.

Onstage:

Kilt... belt... sporran... Chuck Taylor all-black hi-top sneakers... kilt hose... t shirt... DKM scally cap.

To bed, and out of bed:

Flannel kilt.
